What are the headline changes in the DGE 2024–2026 FBDG?

DGE moved to a quantified plant-forward guidance (>75% plant-based by volume in a healthy mixed diet), integrated environmental metrics into the derivation, simplified the fruit/veg messaging (still 5 portions), and provided updated catering quality standards for institutions. Will my Krankenkasse fund nutrition counselling based on DGE?

Some statutory Krankenkassen (GKV) reimburse or co-fund certified prevention and nutrition counselling programmes; eligibility and exact coverage depend on your Krankenkasse and clinical risk profile—check locally and discuss with your Hausarzt. ([gesund.bund.de](https://gesund.bund.de/gesunde-ernaehrung?utm_source=openai))

Are DGE recommendations suitable for people with diabetes?

DGE FBDG are population-level food-based guidelines; people with diabetes should follow individualized DDG/AWMF guidance and medical management with a Hausarzt or diabetologist. Clinical thresholds and monitoring in Germany use mmol/L. ([ddg.info](https://www.ddg.info/behandlung-leitlinien/leitlinien-praxisempfehlungen?cHash=cc1436ff7c43d765c3b88399795ac350&tx_wwt3list_recordlist%5Baction%5D=index&tx_wwt3list_recordlist%5Bcontroller%5D=Recordlist&tx_wwt3list_recordlist%5Bpage%5D=3&utm_source=openai))

How does DGE include sustainability?

DGE used mathematical optimisation to include greenhouse-gas emissions and land-use indicators alongside nutrient adequacy and disease-risk constraints when deriving the updated FBDG. How can I start applying the new DGE guidance today?

Small steps: swap one SSB for water daily, add one extra vegetable portion, replace one weekly meat meal with legumes or fish, and choose whole grains. Use DGE patient materials for practical recipes and examples.
